Press Kit

The Sword of the Rising Sun is fiction, but it's set in the real world of events taking place in and around Honolulu in the spring of 1942.  At its core, the novel is an exciting spy thriller, but its background features real people, real events...real history.  While Hawaii is the main setting, the book traces timelines from Ancient Japan to Old Hawaii, from the Spanish Civil War to Washington, DC, and highlights the codebreaking efforts of "The Dungeon" at Pearl Harbor -- officially, the "Fleet Radio Unit Pacific", or FRUPAC.  Some of the books used to set the time and place in historical context include:

  • Hawaii Goes to War: The Aftermath of Pearl Harbor
  • Joe Rochefort's War
  • Miracle at Midway
  • Seven at Santa Cruz: The Life of Ace Stanley "Swede" Vejtasa
  • Shattered Sword
  • Shoal of Time: A History of the Hawaiian Islands
  • And many others
